OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEM-level diagnostics means we use the exact same professional scan tools and software that BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and other manufacturers provide to their authorised dealerships.
Generic aftermarket code readers (the ones found in most independent garages) can only read basic engine and emissions fault codes. They miss up to 80% of available vehicle data — including deep module faults, live sensor data, adaptation resets and module-specific coding.

What is the difference between OEM diagnostics and a regular car scanner?
A regular generic scanner (like those found in auto parts stores or most workshops) can only read basic engine and emissions fault codes — often called OBD-II codes. OEM-level diagnostics uses the same professional software as the vehicle manufacturer, giving access to every module in the car (30+ systems), live data streaming, guided fault trees, coding capability and much more. It’s the difference between a basic health check and a full specialist consultation.
Do you come to my home or office?
Yes — 100% mobile service. We bring our full OEM diagnostic equipment to your home, workplace, or roadside location anywhere in Auckland. You don’t need to tow your vehicle or take time off work. We work around your schedule, 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm.
How long does a diagnostic take?
A full system diagnostic scan typically takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the number of fault codes found and the depth of investigation needed. Simple single-system checks can be faster. We’ll always give you a time estimate when booking. In many cases, we can carry out the repair on the same visit.
Can you fix the issue on the same visit?
Very often, yes. Many common faults — sensor replacements, module resets, software adaptations, minor electrical issues — can be repaired on the same visit. If parts are required, we’ll source them quickly and schedule a follow-up. We’ll always let you know upfront what can be done on the day.
Will you just clear the fault code without fixing it?
Never. Clearing a fault code without fixing the underlying cause is not a repair — the light will return. Our approach is to identify the root cause using OEM guided procedures, provide you with a written report, and quote the correct repair. We’ll only clear codes once the underlying issue is resolved.
Do you service EV and hybrid vehicles?
Yes — we are EV and hybrid specialists. Our OEM tools include full high-voltage system diagnostics, battery management system (BMS) access, charging system analysis, inverter diagnostics and regenerative braking fault analysis. We specialise in European hybrid platforms including BMW, Mercedes and Audi plug-in hybrids.
Is Afterpay available for diagnostic services?
Yes — Afterpay is accepted for all services. We also accept bank transfer. WINZ quotes are available upon request. We believe everyone deserves access to quality diagnostic services, so we’ve made payment as flexible as possible.
Is there a warranty on your diagnostic work and repairs?
Yes. All repairs carried out by Vehicle Doctorz come with a 1 year workmanship warranty. Parts fitted carry the manufacturer’s standard warranty. If an issue returns within the warranty period, we’ll come back and fix it — no arguments.
